Google's Gemini 3 is here and it's already beating everything - Professional coverage

According to Mashable, Google has officially launched Gemini 3, calling it their most intelligent AI system yet and making it immediately available across their product ecosystem including Search. This marks the first time a new Gemini model has gone live in Search at launch, with Gemini 3 Pro already topping the LMArena leaderboard with a 1501 Elo score that beats both Grok and Gemini 2.5 Pro. The model achieved 37.5% on Humanity’s Last Exam without external tools and hit 91.9% on GPQA Diamond while posting state-of-the-art scores across math and multimodal tasks. A new enhanced mode called Gemini 3 Deep Think pushes performance even higher to 41% on Humanity’s Last Exam and 45.1% on ARC-AGI-2. The rollout includes AI Mode in Search for Pro and Ultra subscribers, a redesigned Gemini app, developer access through AI Studio and Vertex AI, and Gemini Agent for multi-step tasks, with Deep Think coming in the coming weeks after safety checks.

What makes this different

Here’s the thing – we’ve seen plenty of AI model launches, but this one feels different. Google isn’t just throwing bigger numbers at us. They’re actually shipping the model everywhere at once. Search, apps, developer tools – it’s all getting Gemini 3 on day one. That’s a level of coordination we haven’t seen before from the big G.

And the reasoning improvements? They’re not just incremental. Jumping from Gemini 2.5 Pro to these scores suggests something fundamentally better at understanding context and nuance. But here’s my question: when every company claims their latest model is the “most intelligent yet,” how do we actually measure real-world intelligence versus benchmark performance?

The Deep Think factor

Now the Deep Think mode is particularly interesting. It’s basically Google saying “hold my beer” to the most challenging reasoning tasks out there. A jump to 41% on Humanity’s Last Exam isn’t just impressive – it suggests we’re getting closer to AI that can genuinely reason through complex, multi-step problems.

But I’m curious about the trade-offs. Deep Think is clearly more computationally intensive, and Google’s rolling it out slowly after additional safety evaluations. That tells me they’re being cautious about unleashing their most powerful reasoning engine right out of the gate.

Where this is headed

So what does this mean for the AI landscape? Google’s clearly going all-in on making Gemini the default AI across their entire ecosystem. The fact that it’s already in Search for paying subscribers suggests they see this as a premium feature worth paying for.

And for developers, having immediate access through AI Studio and Vertex AI means we’ll see third-party applications built on Gemini 3 within days, not months. The agent capabilities for things like inbox organization and appointment management point toward AI that doesn’t just answer questions but actually gets things done.

Look, the real test won’t be the benchmark scores – it’ll be whether regular people actually find this useful in their daily Google searches and app interactions. But one thing’s clear: Google isn’t playing catch-up anymore. They’re pushing hard to stay ahead in the AI race, and Gemini 3 is their latest weapon.
