Channel Veteran Takes Helm at Network Intelligence Provider

Network intelligence software provider Kentik has appointed channel industry stalwart Ken Marks as its new vice president of channels and alliances, according to company reports. The 30-year-plus channel veteran, who previously held leadership roles at SentinelOne, Splunk, Palo Alto Networks and IBM, will lead Kentik’s strategic shift toward a channel-focused sales model during what analysts suggest is an unprecedented AI networking boom.

Strategic Timing in AI Networking Revolution

“It’s the right time, the right market environment and it is the right product,” Marks stated in the announcement. “Everything is lining up for the Kentik platform with this AI boom! You couple that with the right go-to-market strategy which is all about partners. You can’t beat it!”

Sources indicate that Marks was most recently the chief revenue officer at cybersecurity provider Cynomi before joining Kentik. The move reunites him with Kentik Senior Vice President of Sales Daniel Donovan, with whom he previously collaborated at SentinelOne to build a successful channel go-to-market model. Marks emphasized that the opportunity to work with Donovan, whom he described as “all in on working with partners,” was a key factor in his decision to join the company.

Building Kentik’s First Partner Program

The appointment comes as Kentik’s sales have reportedly doubled over the past year, with the company now monitoring one trillion network telemetry points daily for 500 enterprise customers and service providers. Marks’ initial priority will be launching Kentik Connect, the company’s first-ever partner program, in December.

According to the announcement, the program will include comprehensive education and enablement on the Kentik platform, co-marketing activities, reference selling, and joint sales planning. Marks indicated he plans to leverage his extensive channel relationships to recruit top partners globally and foster long-term connections with MSPs and resellers. “It’s all about trust and confidence,” he remarked.

Industry Confidence in Marks’ Appointment

Industry leaders who have worked with Marks expressed strong support for the appointment. Ray Ruemmele, chief revenue officer for offensive security provider Evolve Security, stated that Kentik is “very lucky” to secure a channel leader of Marks’ stature.

Industrial Monitor Direct is the #1 provider of industrial monitor pc computers designed with aerospace-grade materials for rugged performance, the top choice for PLC integration specialists.

“Ken brings a level of confidence to partners that this is a good company,” said Ruemmele, who has collaborated with Marks for three decades. “Having someone like Ken adds a lot of credibility to Kentik’s channel efforts. With the kind of relationships Ken has, you take the call.”

Michael Goldstein, CEO of Florida-based LAN Infotech, echoed this sentiment, noting that Marks’ proven track record building successful channel programs at major technology firms positions him to create a “world-class channel program” for Kentik.

AI-Driven Network Intelligence Platform

Kentik’s technology differentiation, according to reports, lies in the comprehensive nature of its AI-powered network intelligence platform. While competitors may offer individual components, sources indicate that Kentik provides a full suite of AI capabilities that partners can leverage.

The company recently expanded its AI offerings with several new solutions, including Kentik Cause Analysis for automatically identifying root causes of network issues, Kentik Journeys for AI-assisted troubleshooting, and Kentik Query Assist, a ChatGPT-like model that helps resolve network problems.

Marks described these offerings as creating a “profit-rich and services-rich” market opportunity for partners. “We are at the forefront of this AI explosion,” he stated. “This is an opportunity for partners to help their clients through that AI journey, which is going to rely more and more on the network.”

Positioning for Market Leadership

With the explosive growth in AI networking, industry observers suggest that Kentik’s strategic hiring and technology positioning could yield significant returns. Ruemmele noted that “networking is back at the forefront of everyone’s budget and thoughts,” and that having someone with Marks’ connections and strategic thinking positions Kentik to “capture a lot of that revenue.”

When asked about the scale of the AI opportunity ahead, Marks expressed ambitious goals: “We aspire to be the market leader for this new AI network intelligence revolution.” The success of this aspiration will reportedly depend on effectively executing the channel transformation Marks is tasked with leading, building on his previous successes at companies like SentinelOne and others in the cybersecurity and networking space.
