According to Forbes, OpenAI just announced that verified K-12 educators and school leaders can now get ChatGPT Plus for free through June 2027. The company revealed that teachers are among the earliest and most active adopters of ChatGPT, which currently has 800 million weekly users. Educators can access this free tier by verifying their professional status through SheerID using their school email and information. This initiative is currently being piloted with several U.S. school districts as OpenAI specifically targets the education sector. The free access includes all ChatGPT Plus features adapted for teaching workflows and lesson planning.
